Like so many in this area, I grew up here and returned to raise a family. I know what it is to navigate educational opportunities for traditional and neurodivergent learners. Our three daughters are in high school, middle school and elementary school, and I've worked to find the “right-fit” education for each of them. They've all been VBCPS, homeschool and private school students at some point. I’m no stranger to advocating for my own kids and kids in our community to have access to education that meets their needs.
My professional background is in fine arts, and that has led me down many paths, with education always at the center. I’ve had the joy of working with students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. I’ve created opportunities to explore art materials for preschoolers and their families, and I’ve taught advanced college art courses.
I went to JMU for undergrad and Savannah College of Art and Design for my master’s. I worked as a curator for SCAD and at Virginia MOCA before starting my family. I taught at ODU and TCC and then landed at our fantastic neighborhood preschool as a classroom teacher and then studio art teacher. I serve as a gallery educator for Virginia MOCA.
